Charger Moulds

Consumer electronics

Consumer electronics is one of the biggest sources of plastic moulds. So to demonstrate the capabilities of the new F5 machine with the core-cooled ball screws and the Professional 6 controller, we decided to use a charger mould as the example of what the new F5 can achieve.

We produced this 100 x 90 x 40 mm part in 1.2312 steel with 52 HRC and partnered with Union Tool and Six Sigma Tools for this demonstration.

Surface finishing

As a machine dedicated to die and mould applications, the F5 machine simply has to excel in surface finishing operations. In this case we can see the quality of the finishing in the photos opposite.

The 20,000-rpm spindle mounted on the core-cooled Z axis delivers vibration-less finishing.

Professional 6

The new F5 is equipped with our new Professional 6 control. For mould components it is focused on having a much larger look-ahead, smooth surfaces and avoidance of CAD model errors. For that reason, a group of technologies is dedicated to these issues:
  • GI-Scratch
  • GI-Smoothing
  • Super GI.5
The last one is most advanced control technology that lets the machine make much smoother movements and controls the toolpath better. As a result, even in the most complicated shapes the control function does not slow down and maintains an excellent surface quality.

F5 vertical machining centre

The machine design begins with a unique axis configuration with no overhangs and incorporates large castings that provide a robust cutting platform. It also integrates 8 mm-fine pitch ball screws and 0.05-micron scale feedback as standard features that enable the F5 machine to provide superior precision. Together, these features reduce variability during hours of continuous, tight-tolerance machining. The F5 offers positioning accuracies to within ±0.0015 mm and repeatability of ±0.001 mm.

The standard configuration of the F5 includes a highly productive 20,000-rpm, HSK-A63 spindle, which incorporates Makino’s patented core-cooling, under-race and jacket spindle temperature control system. The two-range spindle supplies unique, wide-range capability with the stiffness and rigidity at lower ranges for roughing operations, and vibration/chatter-free production of small details and fine features when utilising small tools at high rpm.
