Titanium

Titanium

Give your machines a "Titanium ADVANTiGE".

Titanium – and your ability to machine it – can open new opportunities for your shop. Few materials are as important in today’s industries (and tomorrow’s) as titanium and its alloys. Aircraft turbines and structural components, engine parts, and medical applications such as joint replacements, orthopaedic pins, screws, and bone-fixation devices are just a few of titanium’s critical uses.

The key to successful titanium machining lies in process development, where machine tools, cutting tools, machining processes, and appropriate cutting strategies come together to match the material properties of each titanium grade.

For the best possible results, consulting with experts is essential. Our Aerospace Centre in Kirchheim unter Teck (Germany) connects you with a select group of engineers specialising in titanium and its alloys. They collaborate with tooling and consumables vendors worldwide, sharing knowledge about the titanium applications most suited to your business.

Automation for Increased Efficiency

Makino T-Series machines can be integrated into the highly flexible Makino Machining Complex (MMC2) – including an automatic pallet transfer and storage system. This enables longer, unattended operating times and ensures efficient production processes. The automation system automatically assigns tasks and controls machine operation in such a way that spindle utilisation is maximised, and productivity is significantly increased.

Makino ADVANTiGE Technology

Makino ADVANTiGE technology increases productivity in titanium machining and significantly extends tool life.

It combines a high-pressure, high-flow coolant system, a vibration damping system and a rigid machine and spindle construction to solve typical titanium issues such as low metal-removal rates and limited tool life.

Spindle sensors monitor cutting forces in real time and automatically adjust machining to protect the spindle and tool. The high-pressure, high-flow coolant system delivers coolant directly to the cutting zone, improving chip removal, cooling and lubrication – especially with multi-flute tools.

The vibration damping system uses low-frequency vibration sensing to adjust frictional forces in real time, preventing chatter and cutter damage. This enables deeper cuts, higher metal-removal rates, and reduced tool wear. The rigid ADVANTiGE-enhanced machine design provides a stable foundation, further suppressing vibration to minimise tool chipping and improve metal-removal performance.
