Although a small part, it was a really interesting project which came from Bucher Hydraulic in Italy. This customer needed to produce over 30,000 parts a year of 20 similar references. In order to deliver as demanded, machining had to be in less than 9.5 minutes with an OEE of 85%.
The only option was to automate.
Process stability
Before starting with automation, a process needs to be bulletproof and the timing right. That was why our experts worked with Bucher experts to design a process, minimise tool necessity, increase operability and achieve the required machining time.
We used a hydraulic fixture to clamp the parts so we could use easily a pick-and-place robot to automate the process. By using the right tooling, the right fixture, two Makino a61s and a six-axis robot, we were able to meet the customer’s requirements.
