Punches are used to imprint a shape on a final part. By the very nature of the process, punches suffer significant levels of wear and so materials of extremely high hardness are needed.
In this case we machined the punch for a camshaft on the long-lasting Makino V33i. We cut 58 HRC steel and achieved the following:
Surface quality: Ra=25.62 nm
Geometric tolerance: ±0.003 mm
V33i
The V33i vertical machining centre incorporates a number of features specifically designed to increase precision and maintain it for the long periods of time typical of most die and mould applications.
